RP not behind in digital TV technology says Mediascape official

WHEN it comes to advancement in digital television technology, the Philippines is not far behind, said an official of Mediascape Inc. in a press conference last week. 

“The Philippines is recognized as one of the most progressive in digital television technology, considering the number of HD (high definition) channels we have,” said Mediascape chief finance officer Anna Isabel Bengzon in a press conference in Cebu City last week. 

Close to Japan

Compared to Japan with nine HD channels, the Philippines comes close, with eight HD channels, which are now available nationwide through Cignal Digital Satellite TV. 

Cignal Digital Satellite TV was launched by MediaScape Inc. last July. MediaScape is a subsidiary of MediaQuest Holdings Inc., an investee company of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. group.

She said a 22-inch LCD television set that is already HD compatible costs only P16,900.
